  • Biography

    Eileen Napaltjarri was born at Haasts Bluff in 1956. Her father Charlie Tararu Tjungurrayi was one of the founding members of Papunya Tula Artists. Her mother, Tatali Nangala is also is a prominent Papunya artist. Eileen grew up in Haasts Bluff, but moved to Kintore with her family, once the outstation there has been established.

    The main site that Eileen refers to in her paintings is Tjiturrulnga, the birthplace of her father. Eileen was immensely influenced by the paintings of both her parents and often watched them as they painted.She uses very thick applications of paint in her line work, representing the sandhills and windbreaks of the area west of Kintore.
    Eileen Napaltjarri has been included in the collections of Art bank, Art Gallery of New South Wales and the National Gallery of Australia and in 2005 she won the emerging artists section of the Redlands Westpac Art Prize.
