These paintings by George Tjungurrayi use the distinctive linear patterns he has been known for the last two decades. His abstract canvases can be interpreted as reflections of the desert landscape. The shapes and lines are representations of features in the landscape such as the ripple marks on the sand caused by the wind or water holes or wind breaks. The particular areas he thinks about when painting are places important to his ancestors and those featured in the retelling of creation stories or traditional law. Now a senior man in his community George Tjungurrayi is well respected both as a leader and as a talented artist in his own right.
