‘Awelye’ is the name for body paint designs painted on the top half of women’s bodies for ceremonies. Minnie began painting her body paint designs on canvas in 1999 mixing the body paint design with the representations of the bush melon, a story of which she is custodian. She uses vibrant colours to reflect the colours of the desert. Bush melons are green in colour and ripen to brown; once abundant, they are now hard to find due to over-grazing. Women in Utopia collect many plants for food or for medicine.
