Eileen Napaltjarri

Eileen Napaltjarri was born in Haasts Bluff in 1956 to Charlie Tjungurrayi and Tatali Nangala. Her father was one of the founding Papunya Tula artists and her mother was a prolific painter for the community from the late 1980’s. Eileen grew up in Haasts Bluff, but moved to Kintore with her family, once the outstation had been established.

Eileen Napaltjarri paints her father’s birth place, Tjiturrulnga, slightly west of Kintore. Her painting style and application of paint is influenced by the paintings of both her parents as she spent hours watching them paint and learned many of her techniques from them. From 1999- 2005 she painted mostly for Papunya Tula artists, after this time she began painting independently for several galleries including Gannon House Gallery in Sydney.

She has been named as a top 50 Australian Collectible Artist 2008 and in this year she achieved a price of $22000 for a painting at an Auction in Melbourne. She had sold 21 painting in the secondary art market since 2004.

Eileen Napaltjarri is included in the collections of the Art Gallery of NSW,

The National Gallery of Australia and the Queensland Art Gallery
