Australian artist, Svetlana Soldatova resides in Sydney. Born in 1962 Soldatova she Graduated from the Department of Painting, Kyiv State T.G. Shevchennco Art College in 1981. In the years following Art College, she worked as a freelance illustrator for ‘Veselka’ Publishing House and The State Musical Theatre for Children, Kiev. Soldatova held solo exhibitions and was involved in numerous group exhibitions in the Ukraine prior to her move to Australia in the 1980’s. In 1988 she became one of the youngest artists selected for the Ukranian National Art Union.
Taking her inspiration for her recent paintings from the Australian flora and fauna, Soldatova has a fascination with colour and texture and uses oils to create her paintings. She tends towards a close focus on her subject, avoiding the distraction of physical context, particularly in her floral paintings.
Paintings by Svetlana Soldatova are on display in Museum of the Ukrainian Diaspora in Kyiv and in numbers of private collections in Europe, United States and Australia.
